Swim Lesson Policies

Cooksey's Lifeguard and Swim Academy office hours are as follows:

Monday - Friday 10:00am - 6:00pm     Saturdays & Sundays  10:00am - 4:00pm

Swim Lesson Cancellation Policies

  • If a scheduled swim lesson needs to be canceled or rescheduled, Cooksey's Lifeguard Academy office personnel must be notified at least 6 hours before the scheduled swim lesson. This notification must be made during our normal business hours. If swim lesson is before 2:00pm, cancellation message must be sent before 6:00pm the night prior to said swim lesson.

  • Any cancellations or schedule changes made after the designated grace period will result in the normal lesson charge to be deducted from your account as we are obligated to pay for the instructor's scheduled time-we like to keep our instructors happy so they stay with us!

  • If you need to reschedule a lesson the same day without prior notice, you will be charged for the original lesson as well as the rescheduled appointment.

  • Example: Lessons scheduled from 2:00pm to 3:00pm (1 hour).   Lessons moved to 5:00pm to     6:00pm (1h).   Student will be billed for 2 hours (both lessons) if the change is not made at least 6 hours in advance of a scheduled lesson during business hours.

  • During high peaks in summer, swim instructors are booked up. If you cancel a lesson more than 2 times in a row, or more than 3 times in one month, your swim lesson time slot may be filled. We do this in order to keep our swim instructors happy. You can opt in to pay for missed swim lessons so your spot is not filled.

  • ALWAYS KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER! If you feel the weather is not suitable for a lesson due to wind and/or cold temperatures, you must notify Cooksey's Lifeguard Academy at least 6 hours before a scheduled lesson. This notification must be made during our normal business hours. If swim lesson is before 2:00pm, cancellation message must be sent before 6:00pm the night prior to said swim lesson. If swim lesson is before 2:00pm, cancellation message must be sent before 6:00pm the night prior to said swim lesson.

  • If there is thunder or lightning all swim lessons are canceled until 3 hours after the thunder or lighting has stopped. In this case you will not be charged for your swim lesson or class. You must tell your swim instructor the moment you hear thunder or see lightening via call or text.

  • If thunder or lightning begins during the swim lesson the remainder of the time will be tacked on to the next swim lesson.

  • If you are having swim lessons at your country club or housing association, and pool has to close due to chemical imbalance and you are not notified within 1 hour of your lesson the next lesson will be free of charge.

Swim Lesson Late Policy

  • All participants in lessons or classes should arrive 15 minutes early prior to the scheduled start time. This is so you can get changed, put on sunscreen, use the restroom, etc. Swimmers should be ready and in the pool by the scheduled time.

  • All one-hour lessons will end one hour after the scheduled start time, whether you were late to get in or not. This is to insure that the next lesson your instuctor has scheduled starts on time.

  • All thirty-minute lessons will end thirty minutes after the scheduled start time, whether the swimmer was late to get in or not. This is to insure that the next lesson your swim instructor has scheduled starts on time.

Swim Lesson Payment Policies

  • Cooksey's will take a card to have on file for your swim lessons. The first swim lesson will be charged once the swim lessons are scheduled, prior to the start date.

  • Cooksey's will run your card biweekly based on the amount of swim lessons logged by your swim instructor. If card does not go through, the instructor will be asked to stop lessons until a new card is given and all missing payments are caught up.

If the swimmer is feeling ill the day before a scheduled swim lesson, we recommend canceling the swim lesson and rescheduling at a different date to avoid extra charges.

We highly recommend clients not to schedule a swim lesson the same day of travel back to California due to unavoidable flight and traffic delays. If client does schedule a swim lesson and is faced with unavoidable delays, they will be charged for the lesson.

We understand that there are times when advance notification is not possible, and we are willing to work with those who are faced with extraordinary circumstances beyond their control (natural disasters, sudden emergencies, etc.)

Remember that swim lessons are hard to schedule for swim instructors and a lot of pre-planning and driving is involved in each swim lesson! We have these policies in place to keep our swim instructors happy and to keep it fair when clients cancel swim lessons last minute.
